Sizes, Materials and Colours
Apple continues to offer the Series 12 in two sizes, with the 42mm and 46mm models designed to suit different wrist sizes and preferences.
For the first time in this lineup, buyers can choose between aluminium, titanium and ceramic cases.
The aluminium models are available in four finishes, including dark bronze, black, light gold and space grey.
The titanium versions are positioned as a more premium option and come in radiant gold and natural titanium finishes.
Apple has also brought back ceramic cases. These models are offered in pearl white and night blue.
Major Health Tracking Improvements
Health monitoring is one of the main areas Apple has focused on with the Series 12.
The smartwatch introduces Apple’s new Health Sensing System, which combines optical and electrical heart sensors. The larger green LEDs used by the optical system are designed to improve sensing efficiency.
The watch can measure heart rate at regular five-second intervals throughout the day. Apple has also increased the frequency of heart rate variability (HRV) measurements.
The company says HRV readings can be collected up to 24 times more frequently than before. The Series 12 also separates HRV information into two measurements.
One is Recovery HRV, which is used for recovery-related insights. The other provides HRV information during normal daily activity.
Apple says its heart-sensing system has been tested for accuracy in a study involving more than 1,000 participants.
Strength workout tracking has also received improvements with the new model.
However, the hypertension notification feature is not currently available in India. Apple expects the feature to become available in the country after receiving the required approval.
Readiness Gives a Simple Recovery Overview
The new Readiness feature is designed to help users understand how prepared their body may be for the day.
Instead of showing several separate health measurements, it combines information such as recent activity, training load, sleep and other vital data into a score from 0 to 10.
Based on the available information, the watch can provide four types of guidance:
- Recover: Take more time to rest.
- Pace Yourself: Keep activity at a moderate level.
- Ready: Your current data suggests you may be prepared for normal activity.
- Go For It: Your recent health and activity information indicates stronger readiness.
The score can change during the day as new information becomes available. Users can also check the factors that contributed to the score.
Apple says the feature was developed using data from its Heart and Movement Studies.
Siri and Other Smart Features
The Apple Watch Series 12 is powered by Apple’s new S11 chip and works with watchOS 27.
The latest software introduces additional Siri capabilities on the Apple Watch. Siri AI is initially being introduced as an English beta.
Apple has also added a dedicated Siri app and a Siri Modular watch face. Users can continue conversations from their wrist, while supported Apple Intelligence features can also be accessed through Siri.
Audio Intelligence Features
The S11 chip also supports new audio-related functions designed to make the Apple Watch more useful in everyday situations.
Some of the features include:
- Sound Recognition: Can identify sounds such as alarms and doorbells.
- Live Rewind: Lets users go back and review the previous 15 seconds of audio.
- Siri Recap: Provides brief summaries of supported conversations.
- Shazam: Helps identify songs directly from the watch.
Apple says privacy remains an important part of these features. According to the company, audio is processed inside an isolated chip and raw sound is deleted after processing.
Apple also says conversations are not recorded or stored and that people speaking in the audio are not identified during processing.
Battery Life and Charging
Battery life has also received an upgrade with the Apple Watch Series 12.
Apple rates the smartwatch for up to 24 hours of everyday use. This is a reported 25 percent improvement compared with the previous generation.
For outdoor workouts, the watch can provide up to 10 hours of tracking.
Charging is also faster. Apple says 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 12 hours of battery life, depending on usage and conditions.
