The iPhone 18 Pro is aimed at buyers who want a high-end iPhone with improved cameras, faster performance and newer AI-focused features. Apple has also introduced changes to the design, display and cooling system.

Colors, Display and Design

Apple offers four color choices for the new Pro models: Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy. Burgundy is the new option and gives the lineup a noticeably different look.

The phones continue to use a combination of aluminum and matching glass on the rear. Apple has also made changes to the front design by reducing the size of the Dynamic Island.

The iPhone 18 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display, while the larger Pro Max features a 6.9-inch screen. Both models use an upgraded LTPO+ display system.

The smaller Dynamic Island is designed to provide more room on the display while continuing to support features such as Live Activities. Apple ships both phones with iOS 27.

Camera Upgrades

Camera improvements are one of the main highlights of the iPhone 18 Pro.

The phone features a 48MP Fusion Main camera and introduces a mechanical variable-aperture system. The aperture uses six laser-cut blades to adjust how much light enters the camera.

There are four aperture settings available, with the lens able to open as wide as f/1.8 in suitable conditions. According to Apple, the wider aperture can allow significantly more light to reach the sensor, which can be useful for low-light photography.

More Manual Camera Controls

Apple has also expanded the controls available to users who want more control over their photographs.

The camera system includes options for:

  • Manual aperture adjustment
  • Manual shutter-speed control
  • White-balance adjustment
  • Histogram-based exposure monitoring
  • Additional texture and grain controls through Photographic Styles

Video recording also gets new features. Supported recordings can be enhanced with cinematic effects after capture, while time-lapse recording supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR.

Another addition is Apple Reference Image, which records image information during capture to help establish the authenticity of the original image data.

A20 Pro Chip and Performance

Powering the iPhone 18 Pro is Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which uses a 2nm manufacturing process.

The chip has a six-core CPU with two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores. Apple says the new processor delivers around 20% higher CPU performance compared with the previous generation.

Graphics are handled by a seven-core GPU, with Apple claiming up to a 40% improvement in graphics performance.

For AI-related tasks, the phone uses a 32-core Neural Engine. This is designed to handle demanding machine-learning workloads and support the phone’s newer intelligent features.

Improved Cooling System

Apple has also made changes inside the phone to help manage heat during demanding workloads.

The iPhone 18 Pro uses a larger vapor chamber, which Apple says is around three times bigger than the previous design. The cooling system uses cycling deionized water technology along with other materials and structural changes.

Nanotwin copper is another part of the updated thermal design. Apple claims that the improved system can help deliver up to 40% better sustained performance under demanding conditions.

This can be particularly useful during activities such as gaming, video recording and other workloads that keep the processor busy for longer periods.

Battery and Charging

Battery life has also received an upgrade. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, while mixed everyday use can reach around 24 hours on a charge, depending on usage.

Charging speeds have improved as well. Wired charging can reach 50% in around 15 minutes, while compatible wireless charging can reach the same level in approximately 30 minutes.

Actual charging and battery results can vary depending on factors such as settings, network conditions, temperature and usage.

iPhone 18 Pro: Should You Buy It?

The iPhone 18 Pro brings improvements across several important areas. Its camera system offers more manual controls, while the A20 Pro chip focuses on faster processing and better sustained performance.

The larger cooling system and improved battery capabilities should also be useful for people who regularly use their phones for demanding tasks.

The biggest concern for Indian buyers is the price. With the base model starting at Rs 1,64,900 and the 2TB version crossing Rs 3 lakh, the iPhone 18 Pro is clearly positioned at the premium end of the smartphone market.

For buyers who want Apple’s latest Pro hardware and are comfortable with the higher price, the new model offers a substantial set of upgrades.
