Apple Music is preparing to introduce a new “Made With AI” label for songs created using artificial intelligence. The goal is to help listeners understand how music is produced and make it easier to identify tracks that rely heavily on AI technology.
This move is part of Apple’s broader effort to improve transparency across its music platform.

Apple Will Require AI Content Disclosure
Earlier this year, Apple introduced Transparency Tags, allowing creators to voluntarily reveal whether AI was used during different stages of music production. These tags covered several areas, including:
- AI-generated or AI-edited artwork
- AI involvement in recorded tracks
- AI assistance with songwriting or lyrics
- AI-generated music videos
Apple now plans to make these disclosures mandatory. Artists, record labels, and distributors will be expected to provide accurate information whenever AI plays a significant role in creating a song.
Music that is primarily generated using AI tools will receive a visible “Made With AI” label, giving listeners clear information before they play the track.
Although Apple has not confirmed an official launch date, the feature is expected to roll out later this year.
AI Music Is Growing Rapidly
Apple Music is already receiving a large number of AI-generated uploads.
According to Apple Music Vice President Oliver Schusser, more than one-third of new songs uploaded each month are created entirely by AI. However, despite this high volume, listener interest remains relatively low.
AI-generated music accounts for less than 0.5% of total listening time on the platform. This suggests that while AI tools make it easier to produce music, most listeners still prefer songs created by human artists.
Apple Uses AI Detection Technology
To support its labeling system, Apple has developed technology that can analyze uploaded music and identify AI involvement.
The system is designed to:
- Detect whether AI was used in a song
- Estimate how much AI contributed to the final result
- Recognize the AI models used during creation
Even with these tools, Apple still relies on creators and music distributors to accurately disclose AI-generated content. Company executives have acknowledged that some labels may unknowingly distribute AI-created music, making reliable detection increasingly important.
Other Music Platforms Are Also Taking Action
Apple is not the only company responding to the rise of AI-generated music. Several major platforms have introduced their own policies.
Spotify
Spotify has focused on recommendations by identifying suspicious AI-generated artist profiles. These accounts can be excluded from recommendation systems to improve the listening experience.
Tidal
Tidal clearly labels AI-generated tracks and does not allow them to earn royalty payments.
Beatport
Beatport has taken the strictest approach by banning fully AI-generated music from its platform. It also uses AI detection technology to help enforce its policy.
At the industry level, organizations such as the RIAA, IFPI, the Grammy Awards, and SAG-AFTRA support common labeling standards that distinguish fully AI-generated music from songs that simply use AI as a creative tool.

What This Means for Listeners
Apple’s current approach focuses on transparency rather than restricting AI-created music. Songs labeled “Made With AI” will still be available to stream, and they are not expected to lose recommendations simply because they were created with artificial intelligence.
For listeners, the labels provide more information about the music they enjoy. For artists and labels, they introduce new responsibilities to accurately report how AI is used during production.
As AI-generated music continues to grow, clear labeling could help build trust and allow listeners to make more informed choices while encouraging greater transparency across the music industry.
